San Telmo Sunday Fair / Feria

The Feria de San Telmo is one of the most notable and popular events that takes place in Buenos Aires. Nestled in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, the Sn Telmo Fair is bustling with unique artisans and antiques every Sunday from about 10am to 4pm (depending on the season and the weather). Perhaps its greatest qualities, besides the architecturally beautiful neighborhood which it calls home, are its exclusive goods and reliable nature. Never a Sunday will there be without tourists pouring into the cobblestone streets of San Telmo for one of a kind antiques, trinkets, art, tango and delicious food.
The true Feria de San Telmo is in Plaza Dorrego, although, it spills out into the surrounding blocks making it almost impossible to see the entire fair in just one Sunday. Plaza Dorrego houses mostly antique booths where one can find any number of valuables. Some, like original matchbox cars, gramophones and old telephones, which are still fully functional, may fetch a more expensive price, but the authenticity and uniqueness of these antiques make it well worth the extra pesos.
Many booths house truly one of a kind relics where a handmade backgammon board, full dinette sets and antique garments make you feel like you’re looking through your grandmother’s attic rather than a street fair. Antique knives, old jewelry and a myriad of figurines earn a spot in nearly every booth and soda siphons, artwork, mate trinkets and leather goods are in abundance. While the latter may begin to feel redundant all of these effects are an excellent example of Buenos Aires’ charming nature and rich history, and all of them deserve a spot on your shelf.
The Feria de San Telmo isn’t a time to speed shop, as walking too quickly through Plaza Dorrego may cause you to miss the very thing you’ve been looking for. Each booth ultimately has something different to offer and time well spent will turn up something to earn you “Ooohs and Ahhhs” the next time you have guests over.

So if you are thinking in coming to this fair, come and stay at Ostinatto Hostel Buenos Aires! more info a www.ostinatto.com

"I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavours to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favour in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
H.D. Thoreau

Toys invade Buenos Aires!
Until february 25, the City Museum (el Museo de la Ciudad) invites you to know a wide variety of toys. An exhibition that works as a vehicle to express the fantasies of the youngest.

The City Museum was able to gather, across the years, a wide variety of toys that express not only a key aspect of porteño's life, but also allows a particular view of the history of the city. The world of toys has, besides it recreational essence, an approach to the social and economic means in which they are developed. The toys, seen as vehicles to express the fantasies of the children, their learning and their connection with the world, didn't escape from the cultural standards of the moment when they were made.

Beginning at 1 PM.

Ashtanga Yoga

This style of yoga is characterized by a focus on viṅyāsa, or a dynamic connecting posture, that creates a flow between the more static traditional yoga postures. Vinyasa translates as linking and the system also implies the linking of the movement to the breath. Essentially the breath dictates the movement and the length of time held in the postures. Unlike some Hatha yoga styles, attention is also placed on the journey between the postures not just the postures themselves. The viṅyāsa 'flow' is a variant of Sūrya namaskāra, the Sun Salutation. The whole practice is defined by six specific series of postures, always done in the same order, combined with specific breathing patterns (Free breathing with the ujjāyī sound).

Buenos Aires welcomed the great innovators of the theatre and dance scenes for the pleasure of local artists, who had the opportunity to reflect on their own performance, and the general public, who got to appreciate works of the highest quality.

Every two years this event concentrates the artistic diversity expressed in the new aesthetic quests and the current trends in theatre, dance, visual and sound arts, etc.

FIBA was born in 1997 as a showcase for the most outstanding expressions of the contemporary performing arts. Local and overseas shows have enjoyed a privileged place at this festival that soon established itself as one of the most important in Latin America.

In addition to the international programme, FIBA offered a varied selection of local shows which later made their way into the international scene.

From the very beginning FIBA became a resounding success with sold out tickets for almost all its activities, reinforcing the status of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires as one of the world’s capitals with the highest theatre activity. In every edition of FIBA we challenge ourselves to keep dazzling the audience and the local artists in order to improve the quality of our performing creations.

Tango > "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity"

Tango is a deep-rooted tradition of dance, poetry and song, tied closely to the Rio de la Plata region of the two countries, and remains popular in competition, for pleasure, and for health - doctors worldwide are experimenting with tango as dance therapy to treat problems ranging from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease to phobias and marital breakdowns.

On September 30th, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added 76 new items to its "List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity", for safeguarding and preservation. The "Intangible" list is a companion to UNESCO's World Heritage list, which focuses on physical sites worldwide. Submitted jointly by member states Argentina and Uruguay, the "symbolic universe" of tango was among the traditions added to the list.
