Some like it hot: BUENOS AIRES HOT FESTIVAL

The radiant spring sun is not the only reason why Buenos Aires City is turning hot. Music is. Forget the “Superclásico” (derby) soccer match — the main music event this spring starts today, Friday 19. Why? Mika, Scissor Sisters, Benjamin Biolay, Thievery Massive Attack, Stereophonics, and many others, will play an outdoor concert during the Hot Fest.

The first Buenos Aires Hot Festival was held in 2001. It featured international artists like R.E.M., Oasis, Beck, and Neil Young. While not keen on getting stuck in the past, this year, the four-day celebration’s lineup is as impressive as before. Anyway, the festival seem to have gone for a more “disco-electronica” vibe that the previous rock n’ roll edition.

But music alone doesn’t make up for a fest. There are other highlights too: the Hot Fest will on Friday and Saturday feature a wedding chapel with an Elvis lookalike doing the honours as a priest. There will also be a band playing instrumental versions so that people can karaoke their way through the intervals.

There will be cotillion and costumes, and if this were not enough, a hairdresser (Roho) will turn heads with his haircut experiments; tarot card reading psychics; masseurs; and many, many DJs. Can’t hardly wait for a first-hand experience? Hold on, first check out the Festival’s highlights.
